AFTERCARE

Please do not hesitate to contact via email at any time regarding aftercare instructions. If you have questions regarding the use of second skin bandages like Recovery Derm Shield please inquire before your appointment.

Second Skin/Recovery Derm/Sani Derm/ Etc:

  • Second skin bandages must be purchased by the client, they will not be provided at the session. The recommended brand is Recovery Derm Shield, this can be found in various sizes on Amazon.

  • At the end of your session your tattoo will be cleaned and bandaged by the artist using regular pads and plastic wrap (if you prefer second skin at this point please bring it to the session)

  • Remove the original bandage the following day (it can be left on for up to 24 hours, leaving it overnight is recommended).

  • Wash the entire area with soap and warm water. An unscented anti-bacterial soap is preferred, like gold liquid Dial soap.

  • Air-dry or gently pat with a clean towel

  • Apply the second skin bandage to the entire area, trying to flatten bubbles and making sure the edges are fully sealed. In most cases it is easiest to layer multiple pieces rather than trying to fit one piece over the entire tattoo

  • Leave the second skin on for 3-5 days

  • Gently remove the bandage under warm running water and wash the tattoo with soap, do not rip it off dry.

  • Do not pick or peel. If any scabbing or peeling of the skin occurs, allow it to fall off naturally.

  • Moisturize using a plain, unscented lotion for up to one week or more as needed.

  • Your tattoo should be healed within one week to 10 days. At this point it is “closed” and less susceptible to bacteria and infection. It may take some additional weeks to months to feel fully settled into the skin losing the initial shiny layer

  • Avoid strenuous activity, working out, etc for the first 5-7 days following your tattoo to allow your body to heal. Exposure to excessive sweat, heat, bacteria through gym equipment can greatly increase the chance of infection.

  • Do not submerge your new tattoo in water (baths or swimming) for AT LEAST 2 weeks following your session.

  • Avoid direct sun exposure to the tattooed area during the healing process. Use light, loose, cotton clothing to protect the area.

  • Sun is the enemy of tattoos. Once your tattoo is fully healed use a mineral sunscreen and avoid direct exposure for best results and longevity.
